However, with the danger of West Nile Virus in North America, people now make more effort to find ways to control mosquitoes in their backyards and patios.

Getting bitten by a mosquito is very unpleasant because of the itchiness the bite causes. Scratching the bite can cause infections because the red bump of the bite is actually an allergic reaction of the skin. Some of the other diseases that the poison of mosquito bites cause include:

• Malaria
• Encephalitis

Mosquitoes also cause diseases in pets such as heart worm in dogs and encephalitis in horses.

Tips for controlling mosquitoes

Some tips you can use as mosquito control are:

• Empty any containers where there might be standing water
• Change the water in bird baths and fountains on a regular basis
• Treat the water in your swimming pool
• Wear insect repellent
• Light citronella candles
• Wear long sleeves and pants if you are fishing in a lake or pond
• Use yellow bug lights on the patio
• Make sure you have screens in your windows and doors

There are other products that you can purchase to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Some of these products include electronic measures such as bug zappers, electric pest chasers, solar repellers and other electric products.
